The Report ‘Much More Than a Market’ on the future of the Single Market issues a clear and urgent call: Europe must strengthen its capacity to coordinate and integrate, particularly in areas where fragmentation generates profound systemic vulnerabilities. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents one such fault line – a structural crisis that challenges efficiency, equity and the very ability of States to safeguard life. In this context, strengthening the Single Market – here considered through a health policy lens – provides a useful framework for shaping a coherent European response. Addressing AMR requires action across many of the structural bottlenecks identified in the Report: accessible innovation, effective information sharing, and the reduction of territorial disparities. Only through such an integrated approach will it be possible to safeguard public health in a manner that is sustainable, coordinated and forward – looking.
