On December 10, 2025, the European Commission presented the European Grids Package, a set of legislative acts and guidelines aimed at completing the Energy Union, supporting decarbonization, and strengthening European strategic autonomy. At the same time, the Energy Highways Initiative was also presented, aimed at accelerating the implementation of the most strategic energy infrastructure projects.
The package aims to overcome the current fragmentation of energy networks through fully European planning. In particular, the measures are intended to simplify and accelerate authorization procedures, promote more efficient use of existing infrastructure, and mobilize public and private investment.
